Arrest at Highrise Condominium in Bang Kolaem District

A 25-year-old Polish man, Jan Filippow, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his Ukrainian girlfriend and attempting to dismember her body at a high-rise condominium in the Bang Kolaem district of Bangkok. The incident took place on Monday afternoon, when Filippow tried to leave the building in a hurry, arousing the suspicion of a taxi driver.

Suspicious Behavior Caught Taxi Driver’s Attention

Filippow hailed a taxi outside the condominium building, but his hurried demeanor and insistence on leaving immediately raised the driver’s suspicions. The driver attempted to stall for time, hoping to alert the condominium staff about Filippow’s strange behavior.

Condominium Staff Discovers Victim’s Body

After being informed by the taxi driver, condominium staff contacted the room owner, who later discovered the body of the 27-year-old Ukrainian woman on the 32nd floor. She was found lying face-up in her bed, with a slash from her neck to her left shoulder and her left wrist cut off. Police discovered a saw on the bed and believe the woman had been dead for several days.

Couple’s Arrival in Bangkok

According to the condominium staff, the Ukrainian woman and her Polish boyfriend arrived as tourists on April 29. This information helped detectives in their investigation and pursuit of the suspect.

Suspect’s Attempt to Flee and Arrest at Thai-Cambodian Border

Upon further investigation, detectives learned that Filippow had paid the taxi driver 1,500 baht to take him to a location near the Thai-Cambodian border in Sa Kaeo province. Pol Maj Gen Teeradet Tumsutee, the investigative chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, reported that Filippow was apprehended at the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo while attempting to cross into Cambodia.
